To Mine or Not To Mine
« on: May 29, 2014, 01:03:40 pm »
Really curious here to determine whether mining into the stone is worth the effort.  Perhaps the Grim Team has stumbled upon a black hole of resourcelessness, but we don't seem to be finding a darn thing.

Curious to get some hope from the other diggers.  So far this latest mining distribution seems like a big fubar.

What are you (or people in general) looking for when mining? Iron?

Literally looking for anything besides stone.

Hmmm, no edit feature.

Reason I asked "what" you were mining "for", is out where I am in the wasteland "near" Diersville, there is all the iron that is needed. Gravel from the cinder blocks, "full" stone from the small plateaus of it, destroyed stone from digging along with the normal dirt and clay.

I have no use for lead or tungsten (recipe for that now if inclined), so I realize these are perhaps what you seek.

Mistake in last post....meant Gravetown of course, not Diersville.

I have found veins left and right (literally going down to bedrock ore was on the left and right).

Last night I was making a pit of death (don't ask) and in that process I found ore 25 blocks from bedrock. Iron Lead and Coal.

I have yet to find Tung.

I broke off a path from my stairs at about 25 from bedrock and found more.

So at the very least on average I would say around 25 blocks from bedrock is a good place to look. The reason I say form bedrock is people settle/start at different areas of sea level. If you are high on a hill or low in a valley counting down would not be as accurate.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm well below bedrock layer in the desert and have hit two iron ore (with some coal) veins relatively close to one another. Not huge amounts but enough to help out my forging. I do think they've decreased the ore spawns or veins from three builds back a bit but it's still down there and doable.

So the stuff is being found deep then.  It's about 50 blocks down to bedrock from sea level, so 25 blocks from bedrock is about half way down.  One thing is sure - seems to be much less at the surface.

I know this is an old thread but relevant to what we found last night

We found a huge vein of Iron followed by Tungsten - we now have large amounts of both - will to trade some for fuel / drills.
