Gate some by level
« on: May 15, 2015, 05:18:17 pm »
Is there a way to gate some stuff by level? The reason I ask is most times once you find/make a purple it is easy to keep remake and that is really the only reason to level.

If you gate recipes and or items (reward system?) it seems more like an accomplishment.

The Fun Pimps are trying to make it so you loot based on your level. I dislike this.

I feel anyone should be able to find an item...using it is another story. But as of now I know no way to make it so only lvl 40 can make an auger, without attaching quality to the parts. Then it degrades, like a smg. We are headed there eventually.

I also do not know a way to make a recipe book level dependent, as it stands level only affects the quality of crafted loot.

I disagree.  With the past updates you have tried to create an economy but stuff is still too common.  An economy has to be driven by scarcity.  If the players that don't have the time or experience to gather stuff they must buy it, this creates demand.  If there is a demand the players, such as myself or you, that can find the time to loot and build the materials to sell can create the supply.

In line with the idea above, if you were to put more gear of some kind in the zcoin and vote shops (like the arrows at 50 coins/100 arrows), we could establish a good value for those and they could be used to purchase gear as well.  This would help people get decent starts as it's really not that hard to get some coins.  They pretty much come to you.  Kinda like our bacon now :)

Also a reworking of the shops might be a good idea.  A mining helmet for 6 vote points is crazy.  We can craft and repair mining helmets.  We personally have 7 or 8 after you count the ones everyone is wearing.  Way too common.  I could see a kevlar helmet for 6 vote points, that would be pretty good provided loot was lowered again.  The venison stew is nice to see.  Yes it can be crafted but it's a good item that helps to establish value of a higher end recipe in terms of one of the currencies you hope to be using.  I might put that in the zcoin menu though because the vote points are way too valuable with the working stiff's crates in that menu to spend any points on stew.

Anyways, that all being said, I appreciate the work you have done hotrod.  It has come together fairly smoothly and it's nice to have someone with the time and dedication to make some cool changes.  Thank you.

Low level players finding high level loot they can't use, or create (if a book) creates value also. Maybe you hire someone to make something if you have the components.

I purposefully made loot not too rare because I wanted people to see it and enjoy it. What I did not want was nothing being found and in 4 weeks we have a n official patch. I also need it tested and feedback from those tests.

If the use of loot is based off level then it won't create value across the server.  Just for the guys that have the level to use it.  If a new person can't use a sniper rifle until level 40 or whatever then they won't trade in that.  Maybe to higher level people but the market won't be big enough to make anything.  (If I'm understanding you right)

However, having the recipe books be level dependent for some of the stuff would be good, for me at least lol.  It would preserve whatever value is already in place.  But it wouldn't create a value, just another service to be provided by higher level individuals.  The value is created in the rarity of the item, the availability and cost of other similar goods in the zcoin and vote shops and a person's general need.  Sometimes value is established just because someone values it, like cat food.

You can't really do anything about the random weirdos but putting up say leather in the zcoin shop at 1 for 2 zcoins would start to establish a value for crafted leather armor.  At that rate a pair of gloves would be 4 zcoins.  You could then further attach a multiplier for higher quality items.  So if I were to sell purple gloves knowing the leather is worth 2 coins per piece I might say purple is 3 times the value of the base material and charge 12 coins for a set of leather gloves.

Loot must be rare and an early economy has to be guided by the server shops.  You can prevent gouging this way too.

Currently only quality level is tied to level, and that is nothing I can tinker with. Until the Fun Pimps start fleshing it out more.

Quality level being tied to level is pretty good actually, I'd prefer to see something more like an individual level for each recipe and having the option to select the level of quality of the made item (don't know if this is possible but it would be cool).  But for now, having the quality of crafted items tied to level creates an ability for any would be zombie killer to sell armors for a variety of prices.  Obviously purple equipment would be more valuable but lesser quality like green would be cheaper.  This would create a stratified market in which everyone could participate in the movement of goods.
