PVP rules concerning Ground Zero
« on: May 20, 2016, 04:01:58 pm »
I think it would make a lot of sense that if from any position within 0.0 city, streets included, and you can see somebody anywhere outside of the city north or south, you can shoot and kill. This would clearly prevent a LOT of arguments in the chat to anyone who does not understand the rules of 0.0.

The rules seem pretty clear.  It already works exactly as you describe it, except that if the player outside the city is North of the line you can't shoot at them (and they can't shoot at you, even if you're in the city).  I understand where you're coming from on this, but it seems like if they don't understand the rules now they aren't going to be any better at understanding if the rule changes.

Just my two cents.

Actually that would make it a lot harder, especially due to draw distance (people with a better PC can increase this to see further), on top of that it never makes it clear for someone whether they are safe or not.

PvP players should be aware of people being in the PvP zone or not, which is easy enough to see, and PvE players should not be standing on the very edge to create confusion, if you stay a couple of blocks away, it's clear for everyone.

This is covered here:

Poopie's idea has merit b/c it could prevent people from building within sniper range of GZ. Also, people who want a little back and forth long-range fights from the cover of their own base could use it kind of like firing over a fence line...no fear of being raided or losing their backpack and adding some excitement while they build or if they wanted to keep an eye out on GZ.

yeah I think ground zero should be feared by new players. It shouldn't be safe one block from a road. that also allows players to play it close by jumping the line for safety all too often.

Yeah agreed with above post, don't shoot from within the city to folks in the far distance. That will favor players with good PC and far draw distance turned up.   Keep it the same as it is, City Zero is always a war zone, and anyone going remotely near it, should be expecting it.

People who dance on the line can simply be shot. Combat that starts in south/city can be continued outside.
That doesn't mean of course you can follow someone and kill them half an hour later because they were in the south once.

So yeah, dancing around the 0/city line, simply means you are flagged for PvP.
In the end it's common sense, if you are on the very edge of the city with your toes almost hitting the city, don't come bitching if you get shot, not because it is allowed, but because it would actually be hard to tell.

Dont know how hard it would be to implement but perhaps set markers that represent a grey area around the city that can be rendered at an average distance (so slower pc's can see it at well)  That way once you enter the grey boundary, its fair game.  Other idea is a wall that one is required to take the steps to get over.   Once they crest the apex of the wall, they can be shot.  Dont know how hard it would be to implement something like that or if it would cause too much lag.
