Changing/removing Screamers
« on: April 16, 2016, 08:12:22 am »
I'm getting sick and tired of them, they spawn near me all the time, even when pretty much nothing is going on, they scream and like 20-30 zombies spawn all around me and very close, including several dogs. It's impossible for me to get away, I run but the dogs catch me every time, and even if I do get away, the zombies keep hitting my base until it's destroyed, even though again, nothing is on (no forges or whatever).

The way the spawns happen and how they keep coming, is just ruining my experience. I need to have a chance to fight them off, which is just not the case right now.

While I'm new to the server, I'm not new to this game, and a lot obviously has changed, but for me to have a chance, these Screamers need to be changed, because I just can't do a thing against them, except to log off and hope they are gone hours later, which is not how I like to play the game.

Also I've lost my bag 3 times during these events, not sure what makes them disappear, but it keeps happening.
I know this is a survival game, but right now I have no chance to survive, except to log off, and that's just a terrible option.

The endless horde issue is a game issue and they have stated they're fixing it in 14.6.

However, screamers will change also.

Quote
Fixed: endless blood moon hordes.

Quote
Changed: Zombie screamers now summon a "mini" horde every time they scream loudly. This puts pressure on the player to dispatch the screamer as soon as possible. The amount of zombies the screamer summons increases over weeks past, so a screamer on day 90 will summon some nasty zombies and lots of them. Screamers scream loudly about every 20 seconds so kill them quickly or you will have a large horde to deal with. Screamers also have a low chance to summon additional screamers.

If you want a chance at fending them off you could try altering your play-style or teaming up with someone established until you're strong enough to go out alone.

With altering your playstyle, you mean logging off, because that's the only viable option as far as I can see.

As for the things they want to fix, isn't it possible to disable something right now, so that it at least isn't causing problems?

I certainly understand your frustration but there is not much we can do on our end about this issue without breaking the game. As h0tr0d said, the developers have acknowledged this issue and they are working on an update to correct it. In the meantime, just do your best to play around the problem as the rest of us are doing. It sucks, I know but there is little that we can do until the update comes out. Hopefully they release it soon. Good luck!  :)

Hello,

You might consider moving to another location.
The Heat may have been generated by your building the base and/or other around you.

I know there are others that have yet to see a screamer, near home. I am one.
I get roaming hordes but nothing like you describe.
I've purposely left forges on and put torches up to attract a horde. (When I am prepared for one, of course)
I get them but not the same as one called in by a hornet or screamer.

I am also far away from a town but close enough to get to one with a short 3 minute run.

**H0tR0d, this is NOT an invitation to spawn hordes on my base. ;-P **

I wish you luck and let me know if you need help with anything, in game. My general area is 3100N 300E.

Not at all.

You see it as black and white, or two diametrically opposed viewpoints.

One is "make a base and get overrun and thence log in/out depending on if a horde comes or not."

Players choose to remain in a fixed position so they can come right to them.

I suggest that you could maybe not remain static so once they fixate upon that point you can avoid harm.

When the horde spawns it comes to the spot you were at when it spawned...it isn't tracking you as it comes.

So just do something other than hunker down at a fixed location.

@Madman, ok if there is nothing that can be done on your end to do something about it, then that's to bad, and hopefully the patch comes soon. :)

@Patchup, well I get screamers all the time, like every single night, sometimes I got 2 of them. Forges etc are off, but I do have like 5-6 torches in my basement, is that a problem?
Just now I had to log off because a Screamer spawned very close to me (was mining stone), while the game said I was not detected, the Screamer still did her thing and massive amounts were spawned. I ran away and logged off, this was btw not at my home this time (though it was reasonably close).
Close to me is Hotel Noob (just north of the City in the middle), but the spawns are near me, and they don't generate much heat, if any.

@h0tr0d, yes I could travel around to avoid it, but I play 7 Days to Die to also build a base that is powerful enough to withstand the zombies, it's just that Screamers are so strong right now, that it's extremely hard for me to deal with it. The main reason that taking out the Screamer itself, is so hard. I know the spawns will be slower and in phases (if I understood correctly), which would make taking out the screamer and then the other zombies, much easier and also somewhat fun. But now it's just about running away, because I don't know how I can deal with it, without having something like a Sniper Rifle.

For me it just feels very game breaking right now. I was just doing my thing, Screamer spawns pretty much on top of me, Horde spawns and comes after me and I got to log before they kill me.

The screamer was put in to replace what the spider did and is part of the dynamic(s) of the game.

They aren't OP; it's just that you need to kill them before things escalate--they should be a priority target.

You can still build a base just ensure it has a tunnel. Give yourself some room to move 50 blocks east/west/north/south.

make avenues of approach to your base.

try building doors out on your perimeter--just the doors-- to attract the ones you can.

Your play-style is your choice; however, I would recommend it be flexible and feasible so you can adapt to different situations.

I understand the mechanic. I'm just saying it's working extremely poor. Half the time I get spotted by a Screamer that spawns so close to me and screams right away, that I don't have time to respond. While looking for the Screamer, I hear Zombie Dogs coming in. Also due to my current weapons, it's really hard to kill them fast from a distance, and running in with a shotgun, will kill the Screamer, but there is no way I will get out of there, making it even harder to get my bag.

I have multiple exits, my exit is on top of the building, and I have multiple ways to get on the roof, that's not the problem. In the end I just can't deal with the situation before dying, and I have no way to kill it from a distance, leaving me with very few realistic options.

Like have been confirmed, the way screamers work now, is not how the developers wanted it, so I'm not going to do some massive changes for something that will be sorted in the next patch.

As stated, the zombies that spawn after 22:00 (nightfall) may be set to come after you, or someone else. If it's you, they'll go to where you were when they were triggered.

Early in the game, I'll actually be about 20-30 seconds sprint from my base around that time so if I do get the unlucky spawn, I can then run to my base after. I might have a few zombies to deal with, but at least the whole wave of the horde isn't set to come to my base. The witches should, even with the active bug, only scream if they get line of sight on you.

I'd suggest a whole lot more spikes and trunk spikes, and keep your head down after you jump into the base.

Hello again,

I truly suggest that you abandon that base and move to another location.
Seriously, what you describe is a LOT of heat.
Torches cause more heat than candles. Construction causes heat. Killing zombies used to cause heat, not sure now.

This sounds like an escalation of commitment or sunk cost fallacy. Forget the time and materials you spent on the base.
Being overrun is part of the original design of the game. I can't say that it is designed that way now, but it was and may return to that someday.
Whatever it may be, if the neighborhood goes bad; move.

From one survivor to another, good hunting and keep your head down.
Patchup.

The location is fine, and like I said, I'm the one who attracts them.

As for the previous comment about the time, before I had one spawn at 19:48, I remember the time because I was really surprised about the spawn, and even though I didn't see it myself, it spawned the horde.

But yeah the devs said they would change/fix them, so I'll just way for that moment.

Crazy Gunner, if you want, we could team up at the city I m living in the north, I m in the opposite state of you, I want to deal with a screamer that yet have to appear for me, I would have to see tonight the exactly location. I am already strongly defended, just waiting, and wanting to have a horde spawn near me so I can have a good fight. I do like Screamers actually, I think they are the only challenge that I still have with the game for now, because the 7 days hordes are to predictable and I always will be in my fortified mostly metal base when they come. Can t say the same for the screamers that can catch me leaving my mines.

You could always build something near me and put in lots of torches etc to draw them in.

Today I've been free of them, but I removed all my torches (using a mining lamp to see something) and been logging off.
