Map size question again....
« on: August 15, 2014, 01:14:08 pm »
Ok the place I work at blocks gaming sites but I can get to Reddit... go figure...

So I was checking to see if it had been dropped yet and came across this mention for 9 and map size......

"No the map has a size limit but the details of that map are randomly generated. Meaning no 2 maps will be the same." In true Reddit fashion I scrolled down to see if someone was going to question/disprove this..... but nada.

I know I know someone said it was unlimited but do we know if that has been changed or was taken out of context?

Said by Madmole-
"There seems to be an endless onslaught of the same questions, so I want to confirm some facts.

1.) A9 is rescheduled for next weekend. Our programmer JOE short for Joeseph not (JOEL that is ME) got sick.
 2.) The RGW is infinite.
3.) There are multiple wasteland cities possible, but always one in the center of the world, which players spawn nearby.
4.) In the wild there are rare POIs to find, such as cabins, camp sites, etc. These are for the most part the same stuff you've seen before, but we've overhauled most POIs to have less loot, or better loot that is somehow secured or harder to get to."

Yes but let me ask you something..... (playing the devil here so work with me)

If I have a map size of 64 by 64 and I state the Random Generated World of that 64 by 64 map is infinite (meaning the possibility of getting the same 64 by 64 map is impossible) could that be construed as a limited map size but infinite possibility for that maps layout?

So saying the RGW (World not map) is infinite could mean it is infinite in the generation possibilities not size.

Im bored and at work with 10 mins to go home. Just take it with a grain of salt.

If you log into the RGM and walk east, you could walk that way forever (or until “W” breaks). New biomes will spawn as you go and random POIs. Now given the laws of statistics and probability’s eventually you could have the same lay out appear that you have already seen, but you will always be able to keep walking east.

Does that explain it?

If that is a quote then yes it does. If that is your definition of a RGW/RGM it would be my definition also but doesn't REALLY answer the question I posed. :D

And again I was bored at work and saw that statement on Reddit...

Size is unlimited unless a setting is added to offer the ability to limit size.

Chunks are loaded only as players enter so it doesn't slow server and you can still have infinite map size.
