Cookieyoto Castle - The Build
« on: May 29, 2018, 07:58:44 pm »
As many of you already know I enjoy the building aspect of the game.  For this seed I hearkened back to a former life lived as the master of a Japanese Castle.  Inspired by Himeji castle, and based on that structure design.  I was in the process of creating a large gardens area at the back of the castle with additional walls and two more towers, but did not get pictures of those.  Still had some work left to do.  However, at the completion of the main complex I set down a series of pictures to save it for posterity.  Hopefully some of you were able to visit this build because I did not capture the full complexity and detail of the build with this small set of images.

A lot of filling and foundation went into this one.  AB42 was constantly wondering when I would actually start making something that looked more than just a pile of dirt and blocks.  Took some effort but the castle eventually sprouted from the ground.

The build was established on the road leading north out of Ground Zero, right next to a church that was being built by Andyman.  Total of five stories after rising above the ground on a foundation that lifted the main complex about 10 blocks.  Various towers and out buildings.

A view of the front courtyard.  Entrance to the main structure was up a ramp on the left of the complex, past a small guard post and through the gates of doom.  Easily defenseable against a melee armed opponent.  Of course archers would be in the main complex and the towers raining arrow death upon the invaders.

The main gate entrance.  To the right is the main structure and to the left is a side tower complex, about three stories high and built with plates so the walls are thin, and it is easy to see out the windows.  Also included to small towers on top.

View of the cook house set on the side of the main structure.  Includes various cookfires and work tables, supplies and food stuffs stored in the second floor, which also acts as a defensive position.

The forges are set behind the main structure, as well as a shite house.  Includes forges to keep weapons in repair and a second floor where armor and equipment is repaired and stored.

View of the back of the main structure and side tower, still inside the back wall.  To the right is also a cistern full of water to assist in dousing fire attacks and to provide for water in case of a long siege.

Main floor of the main structure, using lots of portion blocks to create rafters and support beams.  Poles and portion concrete blocks work great for this (1/4 blocks, 1/2 blocks, etc).  Also have a big dragon serpent head on the back wall with a tail that extends around the room.

Second floor of the main structure using the same detailed block patterns to simulate wood construction.  Level above this provided a shooting ring, and above that was the master's chambers, and above that was the observation floor.

The gardens were coming along nicely, with a little river and some wooden bridges, walkways and trees.  Had some trouble with the lighting which delayed construction, but was in the process of resolving it when the server wiped.

I've been on this server for four years, from back in the early days so I know the nature of the wipe.  It comes with the territory.  No regrets.  The server has actually been extremely stable compared to the early days.  Madman has done an amazing job keeping this server as the best place to roll 7Days on the web.  Big thumbs up to him and the other admins who have done so much to keep the show running.

Yeah, I got a chance to go check it out and wander through it, truly a sight to behold.  When I first saw it as I was wandering by one day, it rose imposingly out of the countryside and I said to my wife, ah, that will be Cookies latest build.  I just knew it.

When I first started digging holes and putting in foundation blocks AB42 and Barnes were telling me it was a little ambitious.  What they didn't know at the time was the portion I was working on was just the front courtyard.  :0)  One step at a time - that is my nature.  Lots of little efforts will eventually make a big one.  I also intentionally placed it in the burn biome so the clean white walls and green grass would contrast with the bleak surroundings.

Wisen and I have done many builds together and this one is my largest single build (as opposed to multiple structures clustered together).  Glad you were able to go inside and take a look.  Quite a departure from little medieval keep across the river from your kill box, some three years ago.

And thanks Jaspy.  I was hoping that people would be willing to go ahead and explore the build as an open-entry structure.  One more reason I placed it on the main road coming out of Ground Zero.
