Title: So it's WAR then!!
Post by: CMonster on May 14, 2014, 11:38:24 am
Good Day Mr. Mad,

Just wanted to give you a heads up that we tested your theory last night after you logged off.  Team Grim arranged a raid on Mad Tower.  Starting off late we loaded down with equipment for the invasion and made steady pace through the night.  As the sun reached dawn we were in position with a siege camp arranged on the bottom of the South facing of your hill (we left our two storage chests there as evidence).

Started about 0700 (game time) and by 1100 we had penetration at two points, first being at the door, and second being at the roof with a siege tower.  Third entry point was an underground mine aimed at the minerals shaft, which took longer.  We left the last block of stone intact to keep you from being invaded, but it is right next to your mineshaft.  We left your upper door so you would not have your inner sanctum breached (although we went inside ourselves).

However, I would like to say that it would have been short work to loot your entire castle.  11 ingots in the forge, two beds, torches galore, 10 chests on the south facing, 10 chests on the north facing, 6 chests with the fireplace.  We went down and saw your deep mine that doesn't go anywhere.  Also, nice water elevator.  :0)

We also went ahead and tested the destruction of a chest (upper right on the south facing), and it yielded no items.  Thus we left everything alone.  We're hoping that chest was empty.  However, it was not hard to break, particularly when you have three bodies at work.  Longsword took some screenshots that I am sure he will be delighted to post.

The premise is this; with open ended PVP, every player will have to worry about this when they are offline.  That means coming online and finding every box missing.  That escalates naturally (like it has done throughout history), and means the powerful groups need to band together to wreck other players potential to do the same back (big stick rules).  We intended this as a test raid so no harm meant.  Fun screen shots makes for good smiles, and nothing lost.  However, if it's open raid, you would have to start back at zero (and that means the smaller forts are dog meat).

With that said I would have to admit that it was really fun to gather our wits and begin the siege of Tower Mad, which is the fun part about having a war on this server.

However, I think we need safeguards for players who are just starting out.  We should also have limits on breaking people's stuff (using screen shots to "show off" a raid seems to be a good enough "proof").  If meant in good jest these things are a major function of the game, and can be really fun (which also gives a reason to assembling equipment).  Thus declaring war could be a good test of a person's construction project, but I would frown on raids taking out the players stuff, or excessively destroying the ground around the bases.

I am quite impressed with your work although to be fair I really did not prepare properly for raiding as we have not yet reached a consensus on rules regarding raids and as such did not make defense a priority. My loot would have been hidden and anything in the open would have been a mere diversion. But as to the purpose of your venture, I see your point. That is why I have made a poll regarding this very matter. Please vote if you have not.

Mad, you've been an excellent moderator for this server and I send my commendations.

I agree with your take on the base defenses.  The theory would be to actually place cement blocks over the doors when you log off, thus providing a nearly impenetrable barrier to would-be attackers.  Then you just chop the blocks out when you log back in.  Thus the raiding players will not even know that a stairway exists, must less where it would be located.  Enforcing a box-safe environment keeps players from having to endure that chore.

That said, I understand that it is not possible to enforce if players want to maintain silence after a raid, but like it's been stated already - people on this server have been great and I don't expect any major abuses.  Open servers had all kinds of issues of this sort.  Personally I've come across unlocked storage chests and I didn't even peek in to see what was inside.

Thus far this server has been a delight, and I look forward to continued enjoyment (both in construction and in war).  Thumbs up to all players involved.  Just be aware that trespassing in GrimTown can result in lead poisoning.  :0)

Also Mad, if you lost anything in our raid (the box that was destroyed) I will do what I can to replace it (and no I don't have tungsten ingots, augers, or chainsaws).  We were under the impression that it would drop the loot, which we were then going to leave in the boxes at the base of the hill.

I haven't checked but it was probably empty. You need to pay close attention when raiding a chest because it changes state from "locked" to "untouched" and that is when you can access what is inside. If you continue to destroy it, it will just break and everything inside will be lost.

Also, I just created a facebook page so we can post pictures and stuff. You can also post here if you like. www.facebook.com/kamcraftgaming (http://www.facebook.com/kamcraftgaming)

I second Cmonster's sentiments and would also be more than happy to replace anything lost in our raid.

"when raiding a chest because it changes state from "locked" to "untouched""

I have a question and it may or may not be in the proper section...

If I can get into someones 'house' without breaking anything and there is a chest/safe that I know is there (server spawn not player created) what is the ruling on that?

My assumption ( I assume a lot especially when it benefits me or Bill) is free game.

Also what does that mean from locked to untouched? Does that mean if I lock one of my chests someone can beat on it until it becomes untouched?

Thanks!

In answer to your last question, yes it CAN be beaten until it is "untouched" and then its contents are there for the taking. As for your other question, I would say just to use good judgement. If it is obvious its contents are server spawned then I see no problem. If however it's obvious that the contents are occupant placed then leave it be. Just my take on it.
