Title: Unlocked chests....

I use a chest (unlocked) to trade with people it is much simpler than waiting and tracking people down. If it is not your chest and it is obvious it is on someone's property leave it alone.

Unless of course that property has a stop sign and is open for raiding.

I have come across quite a few unlocked chests that I have ignored however given the proper incentive I will openly reciprocate.

You have Zeds taking your stuff Aknot and putting it back into your cabinets?
